What We Believe E-mail

As Presbyterians, we believe that God, the Creator of the universe comes to us in the person of Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. We believe in the present and on-going work of the Holy Spirit in the life of each believer, in the world, and in His church and believe that God makes possible the forgiveness of our sins through the sacrificial death of His Son on the cross and seals it with His resurrection, the “first-fruits” of life everlasting for all who trust Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

We believe in the church as the body of Christ, the universal company of His followers. We acknowledge the presence of the Holy Spirit in each person who trusts Christ as well as in the life of the church corporate for the carrying out of His commission to bring the whole gospel to the whole world. We frequently celebrate the presence of God among us in worship together around the Word and Sacraments.

We believe the Bible to be the inspired word of God, the only fully authoritative witness to God’s creative and sustaining power culminating in the life, ministry, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We believe that the Scriptures offer us the most trustworthy guidance for life and for faith, following the example set by Jesus.

We believe that the church has spoken throughout history by way of creeds and confessions which express the beliefs of the church from their perspective in history. These statements are a credible, secondary authority for the church, under the light and direction of the Bible and do not rise to the authority of the Scriptures.

We look forward with all other Christians to the day that Christ will return, as He promised, to gather his church to live in worship of God forevermore.

As Presbyterians, we affirm the same essential beliefs affirmed by true Christian men and women the world over. At the same time we strongly encourage all the people of our congregation to wrestle with their understanding of the Christian faith through study, reflection and worship as members of the body of Christ.
